WNC History Café: 100 Years of the Black Mountain Firehouse (online)

August 23, 2021 @ 6:30 pm - 7:45 pm

This year marks the centennial of the construction of the historic Black Mountain firehouse, located in downtown Black Mountain on West State Street. The firehouse was constructed two years after Black Mountain’s first fire department was officially formed, prompted in part by a devastating fire that struck the downtown area in 1912. The fire house was occupied for 63 years before the fire department transferred to a new building, and today the Swannanoa Valley Museum occupies this storied space. In this presentation, museum staff LeAnne Johnson and Saro Lynch-Thomason will talk about the history of the department and the use of the building over time.

This event will take place online via zoom. Click below to register.
