The third of our bucket list hikes, this difficult 10.6 mile hike with over 2,600 feet of elevation gain and descent with explore Cold Mountain in the Shining Rock Wilderness area which was inhabited by the Mississippian and Woodland Indians who were ancestors of the Cherokee people. The land was later owned by George Vanderbilt and then sold by his wife to the US Forest Service to help form the Pisgah National Forest after his death. Cold Mountain was made famous by a novel and movie, although the movie was actually filmed in the Carpathian Mountains in Romania. This is an out and back hike from Camp Daniel Boone over some of the most rugged terrain on the Art Loeb Trail.

This will be an all-day trip and we will meet at 7:45 am at a location to be determined and carpool to the trailhead at Camp Daniel Boone. The estimated return time will be 5:00 pm.

This is a small-group hike with a limit of 15 participants. This is a very difficult hike, and all hikers must be pre-approved.
