
JOIN THE SVM’S MEMBERS ONLY HIKING CLUB!
These will be moderate monthly hikes of approximately 5-7 miles on weekdays in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina. They will be loop or out and back hikes within a 1-hour drive of Black Mountain in areas like The Craggies, Big Ivey, Old Fort, Pisgah National Forest, Bent Creek, Florence Preserve, Shope Creek, North Mills Recreation Area and others. All you need to do to join us is to maintain your active museum membership and pay a $30 annual club fee.
During the middle of each month, we will send out an email to our hiking club members with the date and details for the hike which will take place during the following month. The days that the hikes are on will vary so more people have a chance to hike.

Cost: Current Swannanoa Valley Museum Membership Plus $30 Annual Hiking Club Fee.
Hikes: Moderate Hikes – 5 to 7 miles.
Where: Western NC including The Craggies, Big Ivey, Old Fort, Pisgah National Forest, Bent Creek, Blue Ridge Parkway Trails, Florence Preserve, Shope Creek, North Mills River Recreation Area, and others.

Hike Description: Chestnut Mountain Nature Park, Near – Canton, NC
This 5.8-mile moderate loop hike with 870 feet of climbing will take us along the Papertown Express and Old Timers Trails at Chestnut Mountain Park near Canton, NC. Chestnut Mountain Park is a beautiful place with hiking, mountain biking, and combined hiking and biking trails. Most trails are smooth hard-packed dirt and easy to navigate, but there is a bit of a climb at the beginning of the hike to get to the main trails.
Meet: 10:30 AM – Chestnut Mountain Nature Park (2415 Asheville Highway, Canton,NC) Directions from AVL/BM Area – Take I-40 West to Exit 37 For East Canton; After exiting I-40 turn left to go under I-40 and then turn right on US-19 S/US-23 S toward Canton. Follow for about 3 miles and Chestnut Mountain Nature Park will be on your left (large gravel parking area) – Warning – Your GPS may tell you to continue past the park to make a U-Turn and come cack to the park to avoid turning left into the park. Do Not Go Past the Park – Just Turn Left into the Park. My phone # is 561-670-6043 if you have any issues finding the park.
