JOIN THE SVM’S MEMBERS ONLY HIKING CLUB!
These will be moderate monthly hikes of approximately 5-7 miles on weekdays in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina. They will be loop or out and back hikes within a 1-hour drive of Black Mountain in areas like The Craggies, Big Ivey, Old Fort, Pisgah National Forest, Bent Creek, Florence Preserve, Shope Creek, North Mills Recreation Area and others. All you need to do to join us is to maintain your active museum membership and pay a $30 annual club fee.
During the middle of each month, we will send out an email to our hiking club members with the date and details for the hike which will take place during the following month. The days that the hikes are on will vary so more people have a chance to hike.

Cost: Current Swannanoa Valley Museum Membership Plus $30 Annual Hiking Club Fee.
Hikes: Moderate Hikes – 5 to 7 miles.
Where: Western NC including The Craggies, Big Ivey, Old Fort, Pisgah National Forest, Bent Creek, Blue Ridge Parkway Trails, Florence Preserve, Shope Creek, North Mills River Recreation Area, and others.
When: One weekday per month.

SVM Club Hike – John Rock – Pisgah National Forest– Thursday, July 24th

Location: John Rock – Pisgah National Forest
This 5.6-mile loop with approximately 1,100 feet of elevation gain will take us to John Rock high above the Fish Hatchery in Pisgah National Forest with a stop at Cedar Rock Falls along the way. Looking out to Looking Glass Rock, Pilot Mountain, and the surrounding national forest, John Rock has some of the best views in the area. After coming down from John Rock, we will pass along the Davidson River on our return trip to the parking lot.
Meet: 10:00 am Pisgah Fish Hatchery Parking Lot: 1401 Fish Hatchery Road; Pisgah Forest – Google should get you there, but general directions from BM/AVL Area are: Travel to Highway 280 South near AVL Airport; Continue on 280 South toward Brevard (approx. 16.2 miles); Right on Highway 276 N into Pisgah Forest (5.3 miles); Left on Fish Hatchery Road(1.5 miles); Left into parking lot at Fish Hatchery.
