Cataloochee Ranch and Valley Day Trip
October 5 @ 11:00 am - 6:00 pm
Join the museum for a daycation adventure to the Cataloochee Ranch in Maggie Valley, followed by a trip into the historic Cataloochee Valley in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park!
This year’s adventure will include a stop at the historic Palmer House, a double pen log cabin built ca 1860, followed by a history talk and lunch (participants will bring bag lunches). From there, the tour will include several stops and short walks to local cemeteries and other sites that have defined the history of the Cataloochee Valley, with museum guides providing more historical context along the way. This should also be a good time to see some of the park’s modern-day residents- the herd of elk that has been reintroduced into that part of the park. This trip is scheduled during the elks’ mating season, when they are at their most majestic and active.
Information about transportation and fees will be updated later in the year. If you are interested in learning more or being notified when registration is available, please fill out the google form below and the museum will be in touch when new information is available.
